Most Americans believe that all children—regardless of race, background, gender, or zip code—deserve the freedom to learn and pursue their dreams. For decades, that vision has been protected in our classrooms, thanks to the 1982 Supreme Court decision Plyler v. Doe, which affirmed every child’s right to a free public K–12 education regardless of immigration status.
